Aaron Layton

Digital Media Producer

Aaron Layton is a Digital Media Producer with nearly two decades of experience in creating media. Additionally, in 2021 he gained his B.S. in digital media and holds a G7 certification. His background covers video, publication, web design, data management, social media marketing, and packaging. While he is very skilled at producing media, Aaron's overarching focus is media usage. In other words, how do we get the client's message into the right customer's hands, at the right time, and in the place?

A talented artist can create a moving piece that can convince individuals to take profound action. However, if the art piece stays in a portfolio its entire life, no one will ever receive its message. For example, Van Gogh has influenced millions of people because someone had the forethought to make his work available to the masses. A message is only as good as its path to the recipient. This is where someone with a background in communication comes into play. Aaron's training includes not only the creation of media but also the technical and management skills to take a message and get it into the hands of the masses, by using micro one-to-one and mass communication.

Process

Every producer has his or her process of making a project happen. Aaron believes structure to be the workhorse of any project. Yes there is a point where the designer comes out with headphones & music but it always follows careful project management.

1 Kickoff

Media always starts with a need to communicate. Aaron meets with the project stakeholders in the initiating stage and establishes goals & the project scope. With larger/complex projects, a business case and feasibility study occur to ensure the goals can be completed within the stakeholder's constraints.

But for small projects, this part is abbreviated, and a project charter is written to establish the scope/objective, team members, and timeframe. The charter also establishes information about how often communication with the stakeholders happens and when check-ins will happen.

Finally, after careful planning, the project deliverables are created. The executing phase takes the longest and comprises ~69% of the process cycle. During this phase, careful control & monitoring happens to make sure the project stays on task, on budget, and on time. Communication with the stakeholders in this stage is critical because it avoids misalignment and gives them a chance for real-time change orders.

3 Executing

2 Planning

The planning stage is all about methodology. How do you eat an elephant? One-piece at a time. The scope is examined and broken down into a structured worksheet during the planning phase. Next, a schedule with milestones is created.

4 Closing

Deliverables are packaged up, an archived copy is made, and the stakeholder receives the deliverables. Once the stakeholders are pleased with the project outcome, the contracts are signed off.

Aaron is by far the best media guy I know. I needed a website for my business and just didn't know where to start. Aaron walked me through all of my concerns and has increased foot traffic coming into our office. He also has helped us build content for our site and helped us with social media. I cannot recommend Aaron enough!

Aaron is hands down the best. We hired him to do event photography for our organization. He came early, set up his equipment, reviewed the plans for the night with me and even stayed after the event to help us clean up. He is just all-around a nice guy.
